HOLY SMOKES. I’M GETTING MARRIED.

Sorry. I just REALLY had to get that off of my chest and put it out there into the universe.

To start, let me give you some background.

On August 1, 2009, I laid eyes on A for the first time. He was (and still is) handsome, genuine, friendly, and me made (and still does!) my heart beat fast. Really, the best way to describe how I felt is this quote from Elf:

I think you’re really beautiful and I feel really warm when I’m around you and my tongue swells up.

The night that I met him, I knew I was going to marry him, even though we didn’t talk (or see!) each other from that point until December, 2010. And even though we didn’t start dating until November, 2011. I still knew I was going to marry him.

Fast forward five years later.

Andrew was getting ready to leave for a month-long work trip, so he came home from work early so he could pack and we could spend some time together before he left. We decided to take Scout to the beach, because there is really only one beach in town that allows dogs on it all the time, and it’s on base, and with Andrew being gone for a month, Scout would have to live without weekly trips to the beach. (Poor, deprived little dog!) So we packed up our beach bag and headed out.

It had been sprinkling all day, but when we headed to the beach, it had stopped raining. After our roughly 20 minute drive to base, we got out of the car and it immediately started to rain. At first it was just a light sprinkle, and we figured we would just brave the rain. But then it started pouring, and all three of us ran back to the car.

Taking Scout to the beach and then leaving after five seconds is literally like giving a child a Christmas present and then taking it away five minutes later. Scout was chomping at the bit to get her toes in the sand. Andrew convinced me that Scout really wanted to go to the beach, and so we waited for the rain to die down and then trekked back out in the rain.

We played with Scout for about fifteen minutes, and then Andrew called Scout over to us.. but of course, she wouldn’t come because she wanted to play! He asked me if I would call her over, and she slowly inched her way over to us, with her ball in her mouth. Andrew got down on his knee, and he made it look like he was just petting Scout… but then I saw that he had tied my ring to Scout’s collar.

And then I started crying, and he told me I was his best friend (aside from Scout, of course) and asked if I would marry him.

And I said no.

Just kidding, I obviously said yes. I was so flabbergasted, I couldn’t even come up with something sarcastic and snarky to say!

And so that’s that. We’re getting married. And I’m so excited!
